352 or 390?
Does anyone know how to tell between a 390 or a 352 not using the tag bolted onto the manifold? While working on my 66 Bird i found the # 32 52 on the block under the head in the front?

Ditto here,Apparently FoMoCo cast all or most of the blocks with the embossing:"352"where you said ,then punched them out to 390 & 428.I thought I'd been "had" when I hot-tanked my block and saw 352 instead of 390-the numbers you want are stamped in small letters on the back of the block.Cannedband................. :)

You can bolt the intake to the block and heads with no problem. Up through 1964, the oil filler was in the intake manifold for the
Thunderbirds. 1965 and later had oil filler in the valve covers. Exhaust manifold will bolt to the heads, but must also attach to exhaust pipes which change occasionally. |

Dave: Someone asked about manifolds on FE engines and I responded. Is this the thread you are referring to? Do you have specific questions about rebuilding your "top end"? If you mean you are doing a valve job, be sure the exhaust valve seats are replaced. Originally, the cast iron head was machined to form the valve seats. they should be harder than cast iron. Also resurface the head where the exhaust manifolds will attach.
