Cool 1966 Bird For Sale #'s Matching 428

This 1966 Ford T-bird has the optional 428ci big block engine and is very fast. It was bought new in 1966 by my grandparents. This car needs paint but is mechanically excellent and will definitely turn heads when you punch the gas. The car has a glasspack exhaust system. It has the original 428 rebuilt about 6000 miles ago, it has the early C6 transmission that was just rebuilt less than 1,000 miles ago. The car has new brakes, tires, ball joints, and alignment. The car needs a new heater core, it has a straight body and is 100% numbers matching. It comes with all original parts that came with the car: rims, hubcaps, radio with 8 track, fan, seats, etc... The car is mechanically done, all it needs is cosmetics (paint/some interior). This is a great deal for a classic car that would only take a little bit of work to turn into an amazing show car.

Bart: matching numbers? What numbers match? Do you mean that the numbers on the title match the numbers on the car? They should! Can you explain?

Yes I can explain. All parts have numbers. Each car produced by the factory has all of these different parts combined to make up the car. If you took the build sheet of this car and went through every part and compared the numbers, they would all be identical. In other words, the car has the origional motor, trany, etc... Therefore the car is worth more rather than one that has been thrown together with parts from 6 other cars. Did that clear anything up for you?

I just bought my 66 T-Bird about a month ago and has no build sheet. How do you go about getting a build sheet?

I don't actually have a build sheet. I just know what's been done to this car because it has been in my family since it was new in 66.

I thought a matching numbers car meant the serial # on the motor was the same as the one on the trans and the body. I thought this was more a GM thing after 1963, And Ford only had that Tag on the manifold. Any input on this from someone else?

There is no serial number on the engine, the transmission or the rear end. Ford did not do it that way. There is no way you can know for sure that the engine in the car was put there by Ford, unless you have lived with the car since day one. The dealer could have changed the engine before the car was originally sold. Likewise with tranamission.
