Post vacuum door locks

The vacuum door locks on my '65 don't work though when I flip the lever on the dash I can hear the vacuum working. I'm going to pull the door panels this week.....what should I be looking for?

I would first check the connections at the door lock switch--they have a bad habit of coming unglued.

hello roy,

joe gives good advice.

also note that the vacuum lines to the canister may/may not be connected properly. if so, you get poor suction and the power door locks may operate sluggishly as you describe.

check the following:
the vacuum line from the engine goes to the pin on the outside, and the vacuum line that goes through the firewall goes on the pin in the center of the can.

regards,

mitch

Mitch:
Are you talking about the cannister on the wheel well at the front of the engine compartment? If so, none of those hoses is currently connected. I thought they were for the AC which doesn't work so I didn't bother with them. I'll check it out this weekend.
Also, I can't seem to find any vacuum hoses at any of the local auto parts stores. They only have cheap vinyl type and not the thicker walled rubber type. When I try to insert a coupler to extend the hoses the old hose splits so I'd like to replace them with new ones. Anyone know where to find the right type and diameter?

The vacuum reserve tank is a must---ck. with Napa Parts for the hose.
As a matter of fact, my 66 has two vac. reserve tanks to keep all those vacuum motors supplied!!

hello roy,

there is a vacuum tank at the back of the engine compartment on the passenger side, next to the hood hinge. this is the one I am talking about. It connects to the "door lock" distribution hub, or whatever you want to call the contraption under the dash.

I have some great diagrams and some trouble shooting instructions I wrote. send a note to [email protected] and I will help you.

regards,

mitch

Could be that the tubes are leeking air. Look and listening where the doors are moving (opening/closing) Good luck, rgds, Bas
