Post engine value?

First, great forum ! Thanks to all of you for the info etc. that I have gotten! My Dad Had a 64 landau(Fla car ,Newly repainted, NICE) and a 65 convertible(Ohio car, pretty rough) when he passed away. In the interest of family harmony, I opted to take on the 65,to keep it in the family, and to try and preserve another BIRD. With all the spare parts, is a 65 motor & trans. A friend of mine has (what I've finally found out )a 65 that needs a motor. He is into old cars, but can't see the big picture, and ,is talking about (sacrilidge)putting a 70 something caddy motor in it!
What is a fair price for an original 65 engine,to a friend (that I could probably buy the whole car from later [at a bargain price, probably]) worth ! I can't stand to hearof him ruining a bird like that! Any advice on the value of the motor Approxamently 70k mi,needs carb& distributorDon't know much else about it other than it should run ! Any input would be greatly appreciated !

I would say $400 to $500.
