Post EXCESSIVE TRUNK MOISTURE ?

So in my 66, I am accumulaing a LOT of water due to what ..... ? NFC. Its an issue with the TRUNK LID itself.... seems when I open the deck lid, water collecting IN the channels. I checked the seals, cant figure it out. any one else experienced a similar problem ?

There are two rubber drain tubes located under the rear deck ahead of the hinges that could be the problem. They tend to deteriorate over time and allow water from the rear vent to drip inside the trunk. Usually the trunk seal on the top of the deck is not the culprit but the drain tubes are. Replacements are available but run about $60, still better than a rotted out trunk floor.

On my 66 Landau there are 7 studs that hold the grille (rear ventilating)to the body. They have a sealer on each one that may be bad.

well, those are possibilities, BUT this is water that is actualy IN the deck lid itself.
the only thing I can think of is that water is "gravity slipping" where it is staying in contact with the under side of the deck lid and sneaking past the trunk weatherstripping( which honestly is a little flattened with time) and would explain the water IN the trunk, BUT actualy inside the deck lid? the water can pour out of it at times when I open it... I can't see any rusted areas that would allow water to enter.... I donno... maybe aill crawn inside and let a buddy simply "rain" on the car with the garden hose fer a few min and see.... :( :

Could be the gasket on the trunk lock, I've had that leak on my 66.

Check. My 66 does the SAME thing.Ive installed new drain tubes and trunk weatherseal but it still does it.The water is INSIDE the raised channels,deck-lid reinforcement, etc.and when the trunk is opened the collected water runs-out of the drain slots in the inside corners of the deck lid, down into the trunk. This was allowed to go unchecked before i got the ol girl and now theres bookoo rust inside these channels. I know the slots were punched ther for a reason-possibly in case water collected in there due to condensation. They appear to be punched at the factory.I had the same idea as Dave get inside the trunk, close it and have someone "rain on it"with a water hose,of course. Please post your progress,Dave, thanks,BJ,Cannedband
