Engine and trans installation

First post!

I did some searching but I didn't find what I was looking for - if the thread exists - sorry about that.

I have a 1966 tbird that I'm in the process of removing the engine and trans, getting both rebuilt and reinstall.

I'm working in a drive way and I have access to a cherry picker and the car is on ramps, have a floor jack as well.

I'm wondering for putting the engine back in - can I have the engine and trans bolted together and with the car on ramps & manage to put in both at the same time? I'm worried about the cherry picker height and being able to get both into the engine bay and somehow and be able to swing the tranny upwards once in the bay over the cross member and into place.

Any ideas here would be helpful.

Overlord,
If you're working by youself, like me, put the tranny in first. Much easier and safer, working on widow makers (ramps). I put mine in less than an hour. The trans mount is slotted to allow you to set the tranny on a floor jack, start the tranny mount bolts half way in, then slide the tranny back as far as the slots allow. Plenty of room to set the motor down in. Use a couple bellhousing bolts to pull the 2 together while lining up the torque converter studs through the flexplate. This also allows you to put a couple quarts of tranny fluid in the converter without it running back into the pan and out the tail shaft at a steep angle needed to put the mated pair in a one. Also easier to install tranny lines, snug as hell once everything is in.

Sorry about the spelling in the above post. Should be "yourself" and "as one". Next time I'll open the good eye.
I'm working with a 428/c6 setup. I'm guessing the tranny mounts on other trannies are slotted also.
The throttle stop bracket bolts might be a bear, depending how big your hands are. Mine took an exorcism to get installed!

Thanks - I've did 4x4 with manual transmissions in the past and have been told by others bolting up the torque converter is a pain in the ass - that's why I'm trying to do both together. I do have help doing this. Tomorrow I remove the engine and transmission to have both rebuilt so I've got some time to figure out whats/what.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
