Floor pans
I am about to begin a restoration of sorts by replacing the floor pans. They are rusted through where the door sill drops down to the floor. I've seen some replacement pans but don't know how they are installed. Is it necessary to cut out the old rusted pan and weld in the new ones? I assume this is the case and will have a body shop do this for me since I don't weld. What should a job like this cost?Anyone had any experience with this repair? Anything else I need to look out for as far as the underside is concerned.....the rest of the underside looks good and seems solid. Should I have the whole thing sandblasted and sealed with undercoating? Any help will be welcomed.

Hey Rog,
Did you ever get any responses to your query? The reason I ask is that I've recently taken the plunge and bought a '66 T-bird "driver" and my baby has holes in her front floor pans as well. Appreciate any feedback/lessons learned!!! |

Hi, I am going to be doing floor pan work this spring and need input too. cut the rust and weld in new metal, or buy a new floor??? does it depend on where and how much rust?
Any answers let me know. All the best. PS I don't know if there are any other sites, I find that most local TBird clubs have BBS sites to discuss but I think it is the time of the year, Christmas and cars in storage, I bet it gets busier in Spring. :) |

For new floor pans, trunk pans, and other new Tbird sheet metal visit this website: www.classicsheetmetal.com. These guys started out restoring Tbirds and then started fabricating Tbird sheet metal for sale to others. They've been around for 10+ years and the panels are high quality (good tolerances and good fit). Prices are a little high....but hey.
