Harsh downshift

Well, at least my 64 hardtop is starting and running mostly OK, the carb stumble not as bad as it was. Bonus find!! the rear electric windows never worked; the console switches did nothing and neither did the rear ones. Replaced the lockout switch when replacing the front window switches and now have one rear window fully working off the rear switch, one trying. Win!

However, I am finding that when pulling up to a stop the 2 -1 downshift is very clunky. I checked the trans fluid as best I can - looks/smells OK, level seems OK. What should I be looking at as the possible cause of the harshness? Otherwise the trans (Cruise-o-Matic) seems to shift OK for a 50-year old.
