New Guy

I wanted to introduce myself. I'm Jason and I just purchased a 1966 Town Landau (based on the VIN). I have been in love with Thunderbird's, specially this generation, since I was a little kid so I am happy to say I finally have one. I am forth owner of this car; the previous owner had the car for about ten years. He gave me some spare bits, shop manuals, guides, and all of the maintenance paperwork that he had for the work he has done on the car and the other previous owners, so hopefully I'll have a good idea of what's been done to the car. It's Vintage Burgundy with black vinyl interior. One of the previous owners, we think the second removed the vinyl top and painted it white with Town Hardtop moldings. The paint is original and will need to be done soon as I get the car mechanically where I want it to be. There isn't any noticeable rust in any of the common locations. The interior is in relatively good shape, but is in need of some repairs. The only problems in the seats is that some of the seams have split. The odometer reads approximately 98,000, but it is possible that it has already rolled over once already. The car was originally a California car (I have the original black plates), but I bought it in Lake Havasu City where it has spent the last few years. I drove it to Las Vegas (although a known brake issue disabled it just before the finish line). It has had an engine and transmission rebuild done a few years ago, but has only been driven a few hundred miles since. It is definitely in need of some mechanical love and attention. Generally speaking, I think this car is a very solid foundation for what I hope will be a nice restoration when all is said and done.

I know this was wordy...so, thanks for sticking around to the end!

Hi Jason

Nice find! Beautiful car. I too am a relative newbie with a 64 hardtop...California car as well after looking for 4 years for the right one. I too love the style of these Tbirds and am in the process of prepping her for paint. I have just finished the front seat upholstery and will be doing a carb rebuild. FYI lots of info in this forum and the VTCI forums Vintage Thunderbird Club International.

Enjoy your new bird!

Randy

Thanks...I'll take a look at that site. I've been trying to find difference resources to help me with the car so that'll come in handy!

Hi Jason, welcome to the forum. I too have loved this block of T-birds since I was a kid. I'm in Las Vegas and my 64 convertible used to be a CA car. If you live in Vegas, send me a private message and we can try to get together to compare notes. This has been my first experience with a vehicle restoration project rather than just routine repairs and maintenance...it's been a real adventure.

Jason,
Looks like it has a good straight body.
Nice color combination.
You will find both forums are a big, big, help when doing anything on these birds.
Bob.
