power rear quarter windows
65 power windows. My rear quarter windows have never worked but since they have been up, no problem. Now I am fixing and have juice to both working. One I can just hear the motor spin. The other is a bit labored and may need just some cleaning and lube.
I have the panel off, an I am looking at a big metal shield with some bolts in it. I took off the sheet metal with the 4 bolts. It seems like the motor, gears and rails are inside some sort of metal housing. I got this now. 2 bolts at the top you can get with the window up and 1 at the bottom. Just kind of threw me with no access holes when opened. Okay I got the motor out and hooked up and gear goes forward and backward. Hook back up to the window with gear intact to regulator just motor noise. Is something stripped inside that does not work once added pressure of window mechanism is added? So I had another motor that came with the car, motor is shot but the gear that attaches to the regulator is good. So I am almost there right? wrong. What is the secret for attaching the motor to the regulator and getting every thing in place? Last edited by 65BLUBIRD; 02-08-2014 at 05:27 PM. |

The way I got the motor and regulator into position was to attach the moor loosely with one bolt. Push the regulator and motor into place. Put a couple of bolts in to secure regulator. I drill a couple of 1/2 inch holes into the housing over the locations where the motor bolts to regulator. This way I was able to 2 bolts in the motor to regulator, unable to get third in as it is inaccessible when everything is in place. Got everything working, but appears I have a short in the console switch for the passenger door. Will get the part and see how it goes.
Really would like to hear from someone that has replaced a motor in the quarter rear. Really turned into an all day thing for me. |
