Unhappy outside mirror

I have an "early" 64 bird that desperately needs an outside mirror. Someone must have wanted it worse than I did because the mirror head has disappeared. That part number stamped in the base is C3MB-17743-A. I know its a Mercury part number. I have been informed that some dealers used the Mercury mirror to match the remote drivers side mirror on the early 64's. All of the parts books list the later or deluxe mirror. Please help me locate either the entire mirror or just the rectangular mirror head. Thanks to all, Dennis Carlson

I've been down the same road with my '64 and the passenger's side mirror. The explanation I received was that a passenger side mirror wasn't a factory option in 64 but that individual dealers would mount an aftermarket mirror on that side for customers at the dealership. Went to the junk yard to look at Tbirds to find a usable replacement mirror only to find 3 different types of passenger side mirrors on 3 different cars. Each one however, had the correct driver's side mirror with joystick control.

Ended up removing the mirror & mount completely, puttying up the mounting holes and repainting the car without a passenger side mirror. The car is considered "correct" with only a driver's side mirror anyway.

I have an early 64, Sept 13th 1963. I also would like a right hand mirror. I do not care if it is correct for the car or not just as long as it matches the left hand remote mirror in design. I am so used to driving a car with a left mirror that I feel like I am driving half blinded without it. Does any one know where I can get a right hand mirror for my car? Any help is greatly appreciated!

The right (passenger side) reae view mirror companion to match remote control left hand mirror was an option on 65 Birds.
Part No.C4SZ-17696-A. It's in the 65 owners manual. The Bird Nest in Port. Or. has them but they will set you back $139.00, ouch!

I saw a right hand side mirror at Thunderbird Headquartersin Concord, CA but the price was $140 plus the gasket. Still better than the left hand remote which is $165! (Wouldn't you know I need both!)

Thumbs up

Ford changed the left hand remote mirror late in the 64 model year so most 64's have the boxier 63 mirror with the bigger footprint. If you have a late 64 with the smaller 64 mirror its no problem to find a matching right-hand mirror from one of the Tbird suppliers. If you've got an early 64, there's no matching right-hand mirror...just aftermarket ones that look okay but don't match perfectly.

I think you will find if you take a 65 Galaxie passenger mirror which are more common. The mirror head is the same as tbird 64-66 but you need to drill 3 holes for the bird emblem. Now comes the tricky part the base is taller than the tbirds so you have to grind it down to the proper height and contour. You can try that guys it has worked for me in the past and there is one on the right side of my 65 convert now.
