Lifter questions

1964 Thunderbird 390 36,757 miles. In the process of rebuilding the heads. Looks like over half of the hydraulic lifters failed my home brew leak down test. They did not pump up at all. The camshaft looks pretty good and the lifter tappers aren't dished or worn too badly. Question is-can I install new lifters on the old cam and not have a disaster on my hands?
If I had to replace the cam, are the stock ones still available?

I can post pictures of the cam if that would help.

Thanks in advance.
