64 Steering Wheel Removal

I need to pull the steering wheel on my 64. I cant find out how to remove the center piece to get to the nut. Could use a littel guidance.

Do you mean the padded center section with the emblem in the middle? If so, it should come out with a 1/4 turn, counter clockwise.

Thanks I will try that again. I have tried in the past but it doesn't seem to want to budge. The steering wheel, steering column and center piece have all been painted with interior paint. Maybe it needs a harder turn.
