Ignition Coil Resistance
Good afternoon, I bought my T-Bird almost two years ago but I never changed the ignition coil. I removed it and painted it but I did not replace it since the vehicle ran and started amazingly well (and still does). Anyway, measuring each of the coils, the low voltage winding measured about 1.7 Ohms for each coil. But the high voltage winding of the old coil measured about 7.5k Ohms and the new one 12k Ohms.
This could mean that my old coil had some shorted windings, they (the coil manufacturer) changed the winding resistance, or one of them is the wrong coil. I purchased the original style mustard top to keep the original look. Does anyone know what the secondary (high voltage winding) resistance should be?
I guess I should mention that my car is a '66 Town Landau but it has a '67 390 (well, that's what the sticker on the air filter cover says), 2-barrel motor with breaker points.
Thanks.
