REPLACE OR REPLATE?
WONDERING IF ANYONE HAD ANY INPUT ABOUT REPLATING MY BUMPERS OR TRADING THEM OUT FOR RECHROMED UNITS-JUST FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF COST EFFECTIVENESS.ALSO,MY BIRD HAS BEEN RUNNING A TAD ON THE WARM SIDE- I NOTICED THE FAN SHROUD IS GONE.HOW MUCH DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH ENG. COOLING?THANKS IN ADVANCE,BJ,CANNEDBAND DJS :D

dought ! lost 1/2 my message... lol
If a part is on a "Matching #'s car" super expensive or RARE, I would replate if cost is decent. I have a front bumper that is shot to hell and bent on my 66 landau. I need a new one, BUT my car is a 92 % matching # car..... so to the common joe, its nothing special, and since I am making it into a hawt rodd anyway,IDC, so I'm going to replace.

Dave, this 'ol bird spent winters in IN-not in a garage-out in the calcium chloride-and summers on FL beaches-yeah,a life-long diet of salt.I rescued her on the way to the glue factory,Migged in tons of new metal, ordered LOADS of new parts-UPS,Fed-Ex,USPS drivers all know be by name and invite me to their kids school events,Xmas dinner,etc.,.I have bookoo M in it -I bet I could get $500.00 4 it!!!!!!!!I think theyre better kept and driven-good luck-What about totally sealing the interior with silicone rubber, filling it with salt water and making another reef tank? :D

hmmmmmmm... Salt water tank in a t-bird.....
how exotic..... damn U...... DAAAMMMMNNN UUUUUUUU !!!! :D my car has only seen 13 northern winters ever (as to the previous owners info), 2 since I have had it, and only 1 where it was on the road ( but not driven around in) for the slushie months of lovely NY.... once I finish my bird, its getting a nice heated rented garage OR one of those bubble enclosures for winter. That should beat out the elements fer sure. lemme know if you find a decent price on a front bumper, I too would like to replace mine as rechroming will run 600.00 ARGH ! FWIW, if yer bird is beat up that badly, why not heap it and use it as a parts car and get a better one ? only reason I wanted to keep this one is cause it IS in such good shape, and has lived through al these years in the northeast ( lol even-though it was a southern build car) GO YANKEES ! hehehhee [ 05-01-2003: Message edited by: Dave ESPI ] [ 05-01-2003: Message edited by: Dave ESPI ]

I've got a 65 coupe and the bumpers are in pretty bad shape and could use rechroming. I got a price from a local shop which was out of sight! I found new bumpers on ebay for less than half of the rechrome.......they're in good condition, though not show quality. I figure I'll stick with these fir a while and if I decide to make the bird show quality have them rechromed then. In the meantime I've got as nice driver/cruiser and enough money left to blow on something else.

90 % of people will simply like yer car fer the nostalgia of it regaurdless of EXACTNESS.
SHOW Quality is AKA : ANAL RETENTION ZONE lol. just be happy with a sweet ride and the fact that you are preserving a piece of history...... I look forward to the days that my 1989 ASTRO VAN is a piece of living STEEL ARTWORK alos lol as if NOT ! hehehehhe

just an attempt at humor dave.my bird isnot all that bad, now. i only meant that if ones restores an dubl 6 bird, lovingly and correctly-i tyhink its hard to make much profit on it.assuming of course you paid fair mkt for the bird and one is paying retail for NEW parts.actually the iiside of my bird was completely gone thru by The Dep't. of the Interior(ME) and is very near show cond.i dont really think you shud make a reef tank out of the bird-the occupants wud probably get all crabby over the fat mans' steering column.bj...................
