Stop Light Adjustment

1964 Thunderbird Hardtop with vacuum brake booster. Is there any kind of adjustment for the stop light switch? My brakes lights work, it's just that I have to stand on the brakes pretty good to get them to activate. It's making me fail inspection.

I don't think there is any adjustment. You may need a new brake light switch.

new brake light switch

Wouldn't the brake light switch either work or not work? My brakes light work, I just have to stand on them a bit. Is that a typical failure for this particular switch? Thanks.

The brake light switch is a pressure switch. Enough force has to be applied to the brake pedal to build up sufficient pressure to close the contacts in the switch.
