Throttle return spring on 390 4 bbl

Well, after about 4 years I'm just about complete with my restoration of my '64 hardtop. Yahoo!

I've got a very simple question: where does the throttle return spring hook on to the carburetor? I can't remember and I can't find any pics anywhere that show it clearly. The only line drawing I can find is showing it hooked to something I can't find on my carb!

Anyway, If someone would shoot a quick picture of their linkage and post it that would be great.

Thanks.

PS - will post pics when I'm all done.

There is a small bracket on the left rear carb stud that hooks the return spring to the linkage at the fire wall.

The throttle spring does not connect to the carburetor... The spring attaches at the rear end of the rod to the carburetor and to a bracket mounted at the rear-most intake manifold bolt. I've got a photo, but don't know how to post it. (Can someone tell me how?)

Harley,

If you click on the Post Reply button then scroll down the page to Additional Options, there is a Manage Attachments button. From there you should be able to post a photo.

A photo would sure be helpful. I don't have a bracket on that bolt right now. It is probably laying on my workbench somewhere. I just need to know what it looks like so I know what to look for! :)

Thanks,

You may have to enlarge it to see the bracket

The other spring

I have that bracket. It mounts at the rear-most intake manifold bolt. There is a vertical return spring that attaches to that bracket.

I also have another spring that attaches horizontally from the linkage to somewhere on the carburetor. Ford Blue Blood says "There is a small bracket on the left rear carb stud that hooks the return spring to the linkage at the fire wall." That is the one I am trying to find/figure out. I have a line drawing that depicts that but I apparently don't have the bracket.

I attached a photo below showing which spring I am referring to. Thanks again for any help.

Thanks again.

PS - Actually, I think I may have found it. I just searched for "return spring" at Concours Parts and came up with the KICK DOWN ROD RETURN SPRING BRACKET. Hmm, so that's what that is. I've got that; I'll try sticking it on my carb in the morning.

Kick Down Rod Return Spring Bracket

Ok, I'd thought I'd bring closure to this in case anyone else needs it in the future. Attached is a pic with what I finally ended up with.

Btw, after 4 years of restoration, I finally restart my 'bird for the first time. She ran beautifully. She overheated after about 10 minutes but I thin that is because I only had about 2 gal of coolant in her and she wanted about 4. She a heavy drinker!!

Anyway, WOOHOO! She runs again!

Thanks for all the help. I'll post more pics when I get her out of the garage.
