Possible help on your inquiry

Hey. Congrats on your new purchase. The flickering may be caused by a loose connection somewhere (battery to alternator or headlight wiring),a loose fuse in the fuse box or an alternator or regulator issue. The ammeter on these cars (or at least on my '66 but I think yours is the same) is simply a charge discharge gauge. Try this With the engine off, put on all of your headlights (including the hi beams), you should notice the need move to the left (since you are discharging the battery). With the car started and nothing on, the gauge may move a little to the right of center. I am not a big fan of these gauges but the do give you a little more information as opposed to an idiot light that comes on in the dash. If your gauge never moves then either the needle is stuck or there is a break in the wiring feeding the gauge. This gauge operates independantly from the other three.
