Windshield washer: how does it work

Wondering if someone can explain how the windshield washer works on a 66 t-bird. Mine makes some noise but no fluid runs through. I see an electric pump? behind the bag. Wondering if the washer works on the electric pump which may be faulty or is there some other component that may be out of order. Seems the thing is complete. Any advice would be appreciated before I embark on the repair. Thanks.

I'm doing some research on that also...I on the other hand do not have any parts installed except the wipers working. I hope both our questions get answered. waiting on a CD manual to see if it'll clear it out.

Take the hose off the discharge side of the pump, Then hit the wash button and see what happens. Sometimes the nozzles clog up by the windshield. That pump you see is the washer pump, Wipers work off the power steering pump.

Do you even know if the washer pump is working? Does it make any noise? Do you know if you have power to the pump? Is there water in the bag? Answers, please...

Yea, I think the pump is dead. I tested power to the pump...good. I took off the exit hose...no noise, no flow. I can buy a replacement pump at advance auto parts for 15 bucks. I'll try it.

washer pump

i just tore mine apart today to try and fix it. its simple there is a little peace of thin metal that connects the motor to the pump if you shake it and hear something loose in there that is probably the problem.
could you post a link for that new pump for 15$ i cant find it under 35+shipping

I don't have a link, but the part is at Advance Auto Parts in Des Moines, Iowa. I didn't see the part, but they assured me on the phone it was universal and would work. It's not the original part if you are doing an exact resto, but should pump the fluid. The price was 14 dollars and change. If you google and call them, they'll likely mail it to you.

I bought the part I described below and installed yesterday. It's a Roberk p50 Universal Washer Pump. I had to drill two new holes, but in mounted nicely behind the bag. It attached to the original tubing and works like a champ. 20 minute fix--don't get that too often.
