Differential replacement
My '65 convert differential has a clacking sound on deceleration. It's days might be numbered. Any ideas?
Has anyone replaced/updated a rear end with a disk brake differential from a Mustang or Crown Vic? |

Do you want to replace the center section or the rear end -Backing plate to backing plate?
You can pull the center section by removing the driveshaft and the rear axles, then the nots holding it in place. |

Harley,
Thanks for tip. I'm thinking about replacing the entire rear axle so that it doesn't make noise and I have disk brakes in the rear. Have you tried doing this? |

I have a good 66 axle that is in good condition off a 66 q code I am parting out.
email me at [email protected] thanks!! DV |

Differential
The Thunderbirds with the 428 engine (Q cars) used a 9-3/8 " rear end. The 390 cars, such as the 1965 used a 9". They also had different number of splines on the axles.

Yes you could be right.. I need to check that on this car.
I do know that the housings are the same. and the axle shafts are same all 31 spline large. I used a 69 t-bird axle that originally had a 9 3/8 put in a 9 inch 4.56 locker and bolted it into a 67u galaxie thanks!! D |
