Heater Valve Rig

Greetings, my 66 convertible heater door damper will not completely close off and allows way too much hot air inside the car on these summer days. My idea is to place a valve in-line on the heater hose coming into the car just outside the firewall. Will closing off the heater hose distrupt the circulation in the cooling system. In other words does the water have to criculate through the heater box to enable complete engine cooling? Thanks!

I'm guessing you do not have an air conditioned car ! Cars with AC have a water valve to stop the flow of hot water.

So, I'm saying your water shut off valve will be OK. On a non-AC car you should check the cable to the temperature regulator lever to be sure the door moves all the way.

Yes ,correct, no AC. The shop manual was unclear.
Thanks much.

Heat Valve Rig - The Final Product

Heres the valve. 5/8 plumbing ball valve. Works great!
