Fuel system problem
I have a '66 with a 390 pretty much all original California car. Couple weeks ago took it out for a drive, let it sit for about an hour and drove it home. Everything seemed fine. I was letting it idle in the driveway checking the trans fluid and it just stalled. Hasn't started since. Pretty sure it's fuel related since I can pour fuel in the carb and it'll fire right up. Changed the fuel filter (looked like it needed it) and no change. Thinking either the fuel pump quit or the lines plugged up. Any experience on figuring out which to tackle next? I figure if the pump quit it wouldn't draw any fuel in the filter can, but if the line is plugged and the pump is working it may not either...

You can use a vacuum gauge at the inlet to the fuel pump. You should get a vacuum reading, indicating that the fuel pump is working. You can use compressed air blowing backward toward the tank in case the line is plugged. If it's not plugged, you'll hear air at the gas cap on the rear fender.

Got it running!
Yes, thanks for asking! Finally got to work on it last weekend. Figured out all of the lines were open (sprayed carb cleaner from the carb back down then blew air from the front back to the tank) and then the pump had no vac. So, swapped the pump out and it started right up. One item to add if anyone checks this out... Bought a brand new pump at the local auto parts store and couldn't get the filter can off it. Took it back and they ended up denting it pretty good trying to get it off. Went and got another one off the shelf and finally got it off in the store with three of us holding and working on it. If you buy a new pump get them to take the filter can off in the store. Put a little oil on the threads and only tightened by hand. Haven't found one of the little cup type wrenches small enough to fit it yet.
