Post OIL PUMP PICK-UP

Hey guy's i just asembled the lower end of my 66' 390 today, and i couldnt find a pick-up for the pump localy so the original one wasnt to bad lookin so i soaked it in mineral spirts and cleand it up. After i bolted it to the pump and spun the crank i noticed that as the counter wieght on the crank turns it only has about 3/8"or so clearance between the counter wieght and the pick-up..is this normal? i've never redone a 390 ford so i'm not sure if that normal or if it got bent somwhere along the line,it dosent look like it but it's hard to tell. I know it wont contact the crank but i want to make sure the pick-up is in the right positin in the pan.

as i recall when i redid my 390,it's pretty close clearance, but 3/8 inch or so is still a very long distance from th crank. wts. I thinkm theres only one way the p/u tube will bolt up.I like to pump up oil pressure with an electric drill before dropping the distributor back in the engine, good luck,BJ

Thanks cannedbird, yeah it only bolts on one way but i was just wondering if it had got bent so where along the line but if yours was the same way then thats good to know..this is the first ford motor i have rebuilt so i'm used to GM's having about 3-4" of clerance so it looks a little strange to me the first time seeing it that close! Thanks!
