Powe steering pump problems

Hi! I have a '65 special edition and just installed a rebuilt power steering pump along with new pressure and return lines. The problem is it makes a whining sound when I turn it side to side and the fluid is foaming in the pump. There are no leaks and the fluid level is correct. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance ... Mike

either your rebuilt pump is bad or air needs to work itself out of the system or something isn't tight enough and air is getting drawn into the system making the fluid foam up. Let us know what you find please.

thanks...

Try turning the steering wheel through it's full travel three or four times with the windshield wipers on. This should expel any air in the system.

Thanks guys, I tried turning the wheel side to side with the wipers on and there was no change. I re-checked all the fittings and they're tight. Unfortunately, it must be the pump. I'll contact the rebuilder and see what they say. I'll let you know the outcome. Thanks again ... Mike

You are doing everything right Mike, it must be the pump that is at fault.

Good news!! The fitting going into the pump was cracked and sucking in air. A little teflon tape around the threads fixed it until I can get a new fitting. A lot cheaper than a new pump. Thanks again for the help. I don't post a lot but I read a lot of information on this site. Keep up the good work!!
Mike
