Seat Belt warning lightand stuff....
I need to get the Seat Belt warning light working on my '66 Landau, the wiring disappears from the overhead console but where does it go to and what is the color-code for it.
Also how exactly does it work????? New Zealand laws say "If it has it - it has to work" - and my seat-belt light does not work!!! As for the 'stuff' part of the title - where is the constant-voltage gizmo that controls the oil-guage, fuel guage etc??? And how do you tell if it is working? |

Seat belt warning light: the one usually found in the 1966 has power supplied to it through a 4 amp fuse in the fuse block and a green wire. From the light, a wire, whose color is not identified in the wiring diagram, goes to a switch under the dash which extinguishes the light. This switch turns off the light after approx 10 seconds after the ignition switch is turned on. This "delay off switch" is located close to the LH end of the trim panel which includes the ignition switch. It is held in place with one screw. The second wire on the "delay off switch" supplies ignition current from the ignition to keep the light off.
How it works: the "delay off switch" is in the ground circuit for the warning light. When the circuit is energized by turning on the ignition, a bi-metalis element in the switch heat up. This causes the contacts to open and the circuit to ground interrupted, thereby providing no completion of the light circuit. |

The constant instrument voltage regulator: this regulator, using a bi-metalic element, heating and cooling, interrupts the power to the instruments, producing an oscillating voltage to the gauges making the average voltage 5 to 6 volts. Because the gauges move very slowly, this oscillation is not noticed. The constant instrument voltage regulator must be grounded to work properly. If it is not grounded the gauges will read full scale (full, hot, high). If you are getting no reading on the gauges, I would expect no power to the regulator or wiring problem.

I've just run the wire for it through beside the rear arm-rest and I'm going to hook it to the stop-light wiring 'somewhere'. however later on I plan on running the wiring in a more hidden manner. |
