WIPER PROBLEM
I should have the 66 on the road very soon but i still have one problem i havent tackled yet...the #%&@! WIPERS! the vacum wipers do not work any more so last year just to get by i rigged them up with a manual choke cable to the arm under the hood(dont laugh,it worked)anyway thats not how i want them to work so...is there a kit to replace the vacum with electric or do you just have to do some fabing to put a electric motor in?....anyone done this or have ANY suggestions?
Thanks in advance WOODWARD BIRD(Steve) :D

Cheeze Woody, the wipers on the 66 are hydraulic---there is a lead off of the steering gear to the (hydraulic motor)
I have a 66 and never have had a problem with the wiper motor in 36 years. Joe |

Cut me some slack..i'm a GM boy workin on a bird(lol) i know the power steering hose run's to the wipers but i had a vacum line running to a canistier that pulled the arm over to engage the wipers(you have to forgive the dumba$$ vacum motor thing..i hadent messed with it this year and was thinkin it was vacum...)i really cant remember the exact way it was set up but it didnt work unless you took the cowl off and pulled the arm over by hand..am i correct that the arm is activated by vacum..? I dont know :( the whole wiper system on this car make's my head hurt ;) .......seriously though joe,any help on the way it should be set up to the wiper motor would be REALLY Appreciated.
WOODWARD BIRD(unless it rains :D )

Woody,
I can't imagine what kind of a mickey mouse set up you have--there are no vacuum lines involved in the stock set up, just a hydraulic feed line and a return line to the power steering pump. I would guess your motor needs replaced and the lines hooked up properly. Joe |
