thinking about a 66 428 that seems rare, please help guys

So I may be trading a rough 51 chevy and some cash for a 66 428.

What should I look for, I'm mostly into old chevies, but this car can't be passed up, also it does run and drive, but it needs brake work.

I know to look for the "Q" but what else? how can I be sure its a 428 besides measuring bore and stroke?

It is a towne Landau,
66
428
air conditioning
power windows
triple black
black
black vinyl top(gone now)
black interior

originally owned by a doctor, I don't doubt its authenticity, but I also don't trust anybody I don't know

I will be under and all over this car tomorrow, any advice to insure its all correct would be greatly appreciated, meanwhile I am surfing these forums to gather as much info as possible
Thanks in advance everybody

"A" scratch on back of block in bellhousing area

Unfortunately, 390's and 428's share all of the external componentry in the 66 Tbirds. The only external positive identification is in the back-bellhousing area of the engine (but the engine and tranny would need to be removed for you to see it) . There you will find an "A" scratch cast-into the block for a standard passenger car 428. Otherwise, the casting code should be C6xx (as in C6ME for example) at least, because 428's started in '66. So you won't find a 428 with an earlier casting code like C5xx. I think you'd have to look and see if the engine looks all original and make your best guesstimate as to wether the 428 is still in there or not. Is the seller providing receipts? Good luck!
