Fuel Pump pressure

After engine is shut down how much pressure should remain in the fuel line? On page 10-28, the manual says that there are releif orifices in the fuel pump to releive pressure during hot soak periods.

Since fuel pressure is specified at 4-6 psi, I would expect the relief orifices to be set near 4 or 6 psi. The manual does say to prevent "excess" pressure.

fuel pump psi

Just as a matter of curisosity I took a bran new fuel pump and pumped it up to max psi
( 5.5 psi on this one ) and watched the psi drop to 0 in a matter of seconds.
Apparently they do not hold pressure.

I'm going to put a guage on mine this week. I think after a few minutes i tried to take my fuel line off and it was under a lot of pressure. I'll let you know the results.

Put a guage on my Fuel Pump today. It ran at 6 lbs and after i shut down the engine during the hot soak period it did not rise. The pressure stayed at 5 lbs for about 30 minutes then slowly went down to 0.
