Lightbulb Neutral Safety Switch Helpful Hint

Recently my 66 Landau would not start (390/C6 tranny). After troubleshooting the most obvious problems, I figured the Neutral Safety Switch had malfunctioned. The following VERY helpful information came from Harley Eaton. I have a picture with my temporary jumper solution to start the car but don't know how to attach it here. It took me less than 5 minutes to rig it and get the car started. Thanks!

"If you have a 1966 with the C-6 transmission, the neutral start switch is on the transmission. The switch on the steering column is the parking brake release. The transmission code on the data plate on the driver's door shows which transmission Ford put in the car: code 4 for C-6, code 8 for Cruise-O-Matic. C-6 transmission in the car can be further identified by the wiring for the neutral start switch: in the engine compartment, on the frame (?) rail near the power steering pump is a four wire electrical plug for the neutral start wiring. From there the wires go across the top of the engine by the valve cover and down to the transmission. The four wires are: two for neutral start, two for the back up lights. If Cruise-O-Matic was installed, wiring at the four wire plug would just double back as if bypassing the transmission switch.

I think you can bypass the neutral start switch by jumping at the above mentioned electrical plug. (yes, you can, I did it, it worked - SM) On the wiring coming from the front (not the wires going to the transmission), jump between the two wires colored red with the blue stripe. (If you get the wrong ones, the back up lights will come on.....)"
