fixing my Bird
You are going to run into all sorts of problems so you might as well invest in a shop manual. It will save you time and money.

MyTbird: did you ever get the explanation to solve your problem? I think i'm experiencing the same thing. It would be great to add your knowledge to the general forum :-) Steve.

I guess Stephen and "MYTBIRD" are asking the same question What do I do first? . . First: with a good battery in the car, with the ignition on, with the car in Park or Neutal so that the car will crank, see if you have power coming out of the top control relay on the firewall (engine side)..
I'm making the assumption that you get NOTHING when you work the top control switch on the console. If you have no power to the switch, you could jumper power to the switch, bypassing the relay and the Neutral Start Switch. Under the console lid (panel with the window and top switches) power red for top up and yellow for top down. As previously stated, I can supply step by step if you contact me privately. |

Harley, I will contact you directly tonite. I assume you meant your email address to be [email protected] instead of [email protected] . My specific problem is a sudden none starting car, with a good battery, lights and all other functions. Exception being that yesterday, i had to hold the shift lever in Park in order to start it when usually it starts without that move. I also can't find a diagram of WHERE the neutral safety switch is. What i think it is, has two vacuum lines coming out, one going to the parking brake release, the other goes under the dash. There appears to be NO electrical wires, plugs or such associated with it. I can take a digital pic of the part and email it also if that will help. Thanks in advance... Stephen. (Landau, no convertible)
