The car does not have to be running, But it's a big drain on the battery. Key has to be on and in Park or Neutral.

OK. I shall try again tonight. The gear shift is not the tightest thing, so maybe like my old 64 conv I need to pull up on it firmly then try the top again.

If all else is working as it should, but the deck lid will not open, it will probably be necessary to remove the rear seat (driver side) to get to the relay and jump the relay to open the deck lid. It unlocks electrically, but requires hydraulic pressure to open. If you have no hydraulic pressure, you can open the lid manually to get to the relays and the top pump. After unlocking the deck lid electrically, jump the deck open relay to see if you have hydraulic pressure to lift the lid.

thanks for the info. Sadly I am REAL weak on electrics of things so I hope the manuals I have ordered will have goo detail and explain things as you have.
