Question Oil Pressure Gauge Readings.

On my 66 Landau, the oil pressure gauge has some inconsistent readings depending on the what the traffic situation is. At an idle, it reads dead center or just below. At about 45 mph, the needle scoots up to just above the "L" in OIL. At interstate speeds, it moves up to the high end of the normal range.

Is this normal?
If not, what needs to be fixed?
Where is the Oil Pressure sensor on a 390?

Thanks, Steve.

oil pressure sender unit

On my 66 with the 390 it sets on top of the oil filter adapter housing.

Oil pressure readings seem to be about what one could expect. As your engine increases speed, your oil pump goes faster, generating more pressure. Most Thunderbirds will not show as high as yours. If you are interested in the PSI, you can install a mechanical gauge. I wouldn't fix anything in your case.
