Bumpers
Can anyone out there point me in the right direction, I am trying to find complete front and back bumper assemblies for a 1964 T-Bird.
Seems that a "trusted" mechanic removed mine to have them re-chromed. He closed up shop and no one has the faintest idea where he is, nor do they have any idea where my bumpers are located. I welcome any and all suggestions. I have already tried Larry's Thunderbirds in Los Angeles with no luck. Any ideas? Send an email to Jim Cockerham in Winston-Salem who's the club president of the Carolina Thunderbird Club. He might know a good local source for those bumpers. His email is [email protected].
If no luck, try Hollywood Classic Cars in Hallandale, FL who have parted-out and restored over 200 Tbirds. They advertise used bumpers from only $50. They might also sell them re-chromed if you don't have a trusted local chrome shop. Their website is: http://t-bird.net. Or call (800) 235-2444 and ask for Mel. Good luck!! |

Try Bumperboyz.com. They're in LA and reclaim, straighten and rechrome bumpers for just about every car out there. I got a rear bumper from them for my 65 and it is as close to perfect as you can find.
They also travel to shows around the country so if you order a bumper via email they will bring it in their truck to the show , you pick up and save the cost of shipping. |

I've heard stories about Bumper Boyz lack of quality -- so be cautious. They show up at all the big National swap meets (Hershey, Auburn, etc.) with two tractor trailers full of rechromed bumpers to sell. They'd probably have 64 Tbird bumpers on hand, but after a few months, the chrome may peel at the corners, or rub through to the underlying brass after a few polishings.
I purchased a 64 rear bumper on eBay for $30 recently and took it to a local chromer who re-did it for $240. Excellent work for $270 total. Unfortunately, 64 front bumpers rarely appear on eBay -- only the rear ones show up regularly. Good luck. |
