brake booster problem

...just installed my detailed motor and a reconditioned
brake booster on my 66 bird. The original booster
had a torn boot on the outside edge so I thought
I would replace it while motor was out. (the booster
was ordered through NAPA)
....The car is now up and running smoothly except
for the brakes. The booster does not seem to be functioning.
I checked the vaccum hose and there seems to be
sufficient suction. Where do I begin to look next?
The setting was not moved on the rod (same as from
supplier)
.....any tips would be greatly 'preciated......

You should always check the push rod dimension. Don't count on the rebuilder! To check the booster operation, deplete the vacuum in the system if there is any. Hold your foot firmly on the brake pedal and start the engine. If the booster is good, you will feel the brake pedal fall toward the floor. If you don't feel the pedal fall, BAD BOOSTER.. (The push rod dimension is in the shop manual.)

Thanx fo the input Harley......actually the problem was in the
push rod. It wasn't seated properly in the booster. I pulled
the master cylinder off to make an adjustment on the rod
and it seated itself properly and end of my problems.
