390 motor (66 bird)?????

...Looking for some input...

I am detailing the motor in my 66 Landau. It supposedly
has a 390 in it with only 40 thou original miles. I have the
intake manifold off and checking the hydraulic lifters. One
appeared to be pitted and when I dismantled it, the small
cap and spring remained inside. All of the remaining ones
pulled out with everything intact. With this one faulty
lifter I have been advised to replace with new cam and
lifters.
My problem is, I have a few reasons not to believe
the motor is a 390.
First, when I ordered the doughnut exhaust gaskets
from NAPA, they were too big. I then went to the
local muffler shop and they assured me the gaskets
were for a 390 motor. I just happened to bring
along my heat riser to match a proper fit. They were
much to my surprise, for a 302 motor.
The other discrepancy was the cast number on the
front of block, 352 with an upside down 'L' under
the number. To order the proper cam replacement
I have to know what motor I am rebuilding.
The Vin # shows a 390 C. I. V8 (6Y87Z163896)
....Any comments would be much appreciated...

.........Thanx. Mike (SIXTSIX)

390's and 428's both have the "352" cast on them.
Why not just measure the bore and stroke. That would be POSITIVE..../
