Lights Flickering
All of the lights on my 64 flicker just a little. The alternator appears to be fairly new and charges. The voltage regulator is new. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks

a number of components in the light circuits can cause a "flicker" from loose/corroded battery cable connection or headlight connection loose/broken on top of headlight switch or loose connection on ignition switch or malfunctioning voltage regulator or voltage regulator not screwed to clean sheet metal or loose/corroded (-) battery cable connection on the block or----- . Need more details! All Exterior & Interior lights flicker or just the interior or exterior lights? That will start to narrow down the problem.

Thanks. All interior and exterior lights flicker. It is only a slight, but definitely noticeable flicker. This occurs at all times, even when the car is just sitting idling. The flickering seems to coincide somewhat with the rpms, in that the more rpms, the less the flickering. This is something I can live with, but if there is a quick fix I would of course do it. Thanks again.

1st thing: Clean rust/paint away from the sheet metal where the voltage regulator is screwed down. Screws must be screwed down tight for a good ground connection. If they do not tighted up good, use a bigger sheet metal screw. If that doesn't do it, replace the voltage regulator with a new solid state regulator for your year T-Bird. If that doesn't do it, Sears should see the flickering on their test equipment. Depends on store but Sears electrical system check is sometimes free when you have a Diehard battery. If Sear's test equipment doesn't nail the problem, come back for step #2 !

Just thought of something else. At sundown, lift the hood and with engine running look for electrical spark(s) jumping to ground particularily around the ignition coil.

So nice to see a thanks in the replies once in a while. Many of these posts share training , education , and experiences of mechanican for many decades. Course, I'm at the age now where I would rather sit on the edge of the bed and talk about it rather than do it .
