The project Coolcruiser
Well the bird is running now.Threw a dealer plate on it and drove for a bit and it is really not too bad.I am planning on removing most of the chrome including all locks and handles.Maybe take 1 or 2 inches of roof height.Want to paint the car dark blue with a metallic silver roof.
I have looked the car over and it is very original and well equiped.Car came with dual power seats, power windows(including vent),ant, locks, trunk, lowfuel warning, speed control and a/c.Should be a smooth nice car to drive when i finish. Gimme all ur input positive and negative.I am moving into my new shop in NJ within a month so if anybody wants to bench race ,wrench or hang out drop me a line |

No i wouldnt say that you are going the wrong way with your bird........i think some guys may cring at the thought of choopin the top or shavin the handles, but its your car man,do what you want to and what you like! Thats what i did,my bird looks bone stock cruiser from the out side, including fender skirts,4"whitewalls and wire wheels.....but i built it to around 370hp with tons of chrome and coated parts under the hood,a feul cell/elec pump and flowmasters.....runs&sounds like a street racer but looks like it's a little ol ladys car..lol. Just do what makes you happy man! You only live once ;) WOODY

Hey Woody. What combo did you use for you're 390.I was thinking going with a complete top end package(probally Edelbrock) with a rebuilt short block.I only really want bout 350HP with a four speed automatic and 3.73 rear gear.I would like to convert to EFI but that is not in the budget yet,but i will do it with some spare time and money at some point.

500sec...i went with a holley carb650cfm(tried DEMON and hated it!)edelbrock aluminum intake($270summit) 270d cam with about .500 lift, mallory dual point dist., MSD blaster2 coil, recon heads with 3 angle valve job, rebuilt short block, and dual flowmaster mufflers, also did elec fuel system with regulator. This combo has tons of power and off the line punch, more than it really needs for this car ;) you should have no prob with a top end package, should make real nice power. heres a list of what i used with prices:
Rebuilt 390FE short block:$900 recon heads w/valve job $425 holley carb $240 edelbrock performer intake$270 crane camshaft & lifters $120 mallory distr.$135 MSD coil $30 flowmaster mufflers $140 pair complete fuel system elec/fuel cell/lines/reg/an-8 fittings...about $1200 but not needed (just what i wanted) besides a few minor odds&ends thats about it and it runs strong.
