First little bird
I've been an early Mustang owner for 20 years but the little bird has always been one of my favorite cars and my wife really loves them. So here we go, I bought a 57 from Gil Bumgardner, it had been disassembled and stored about 20 years ago but it's all there, rustfree, and pretty strait. I intend to modernize the car somewhat in the mechanical area while retaining the origional appearence with the exception of the color, it will be 56 peacock blue.
The chassis has been shipped to me and Gil will do the body. I have installed a front subframe from Fatman fabrications that will give the car mustang II style rack & pinion stearing and tubular controll arms also disk brakes, the engine is from a 93 t-bird, 5.0 HO fuel injection and an AOD4 automatic overdrive transmission, a modern sound system and air conditioner will complete the modifications.
I know that modifing these cars offends some folks but I've done the same things to my 66 Mustang and Its a dream to drive and I believe that a car must be driven to be enjoyed and this little bird will be driven!
I'll share the progress with you as the engine mounts are installed, the frame gets powdercoated assembled to a rolling chassis in my shop and then is shipped back to Gil for the installation of the restored body.
