Horn ring 56
I have the original horn ring for my 56 bird with power steering and it is somewhat pitted. I have been looking for a replacement but have not been successful. Is there a place to send it to to have it rechromed and will it look like it is supposed to if i do this? Along the same line i was wondering if the steering colum is chrome or argent paint in the engine compartment. Any help would be appreciated.

The steering column is chrome plated for the full length.
The best solution to the horn ring is to search for one off a '56 passenger car. The reason for this recommendation is two fold: (1) the interiors of passenger cars were protected from the elements and the interior trim was usually preserved better and (2) a quality replate on a horn ring can be difficult to obtain. I have never tried them for plating this item; but I think I would try Jewels Body shop in Brilion, Wisconsin. They have a lot of experience with plating for high quality Birds. Tom |
