I put a trans out of a 55 fairlane its a top loader

now the speedometer reads about 10 to 15 mph fast

I think that the rear end ratio much be different

dose any one know the ratios of the rear end that was used in 1955 by ford

kyle,

Many Ford products used the same trannies for all years, and I suspect that your gear drive for the speedometer has the incorrect number of teeth.

There are 4 different speedometer gears for 55-57 small birds, each having 19, or 20, or 21, or 22 teeth. I suspect that you require a different one than you presently have installed. Pull it, count the teeth, and then call the following guys at Hill's Thunderbird Center. 740-949-2217 and ask for Technical Information. These guys should have an answer for you.

They list these gears at $21.95 to 27.15 in their 2011 catalogue.
Good Luck!

If you have the old trans, pull the gear out of it and put it in the new trans. They should be the same except for the number of teeth.
