Post vacuum wipers- electric kit- WARNING!

If you drive your bird much, you've probably thought about the electric wiper kit. Well, it works great. It SHOULD install easily, because it's a simple kit. It doesn't. The placement under the dash is absolutely horrid, which is not the fault of the kit.

What is the fault of the kit, is the decision to use "E" clips as the retaining mechanism for the wiper arms. Ever tried putting on "E" clips? Best done with a set of pliers. In this case, your hands BARELY fit in the space, and the pliers just won't happen.

I ended up getting the snap on retaining buttons, which go over the posts and lock in to the slot designed for the "E" clip. Hopefully, it'll hold. After cursing for 4 hours working one clip, I decided it was the best idea. I found these little retainers at a hardware store owned by 90 year old men. Don't even know what they are called.

In their absence, I'd probably cut the arms in the middle, attach them to the motor, and screw a mending plate to the arms to put them back together. Much easier than the stitches I have in my hand now.

Brian- If you're looking to drive your car, and not show it, and if wipers are in your thought process, DO IT NOW!!! While you have the dash off.

Stephen
