Help! Hood Cable Broke....
My hood release cable on a 56' T-bird broke this weekend. I was wondering if anyone knows how to manually open the hood so that the cable/linkage can be replaced.
Thanks in advance... Mitch |

Just had the same thing happen. Get it up on a rack, and take a LONG screwdriver right by the firewall on the driver side. That's where the linkage is that attaches to the hood cable. Get a copy of the thunderbird center's catalog (if you don't have one already) and look at the hood assembly drawing. I've figured out a number of things that way.
Any idea how to keep heat out of the cabin? I've been told to put a gate valve on the heater core, but don't know about that. Stephen.

The old joke about keeping heat of the cabin is to take the top off, unfortunately!
I'm wondering (I'm rebuilding one now) whether there is any better insulation set ups for the fire wall, and under the rug (over the mufflers and the trans). As it is, there is lots of room for leak thru. |

Stephen, Thanks for the reply. I will keep that method in mind next time the cable fails on me. I forunately got the hood opened, by placing the car up on ramps and reaching up throuh the engine compartment with a pair of vise-grips. I griped the hood latch rod and gave a light pull downward.
I don't know much about the heat problem yet, since I just pulled our 56' Bird out of the barn, where it has been stored since 1984. I have a lot of rubber to replace before I get to really heat her up again. Later, Mitch |
