accessory wire wheel covers

Gentlemen,
I recently installed the accessory wire wheel covers on my 55. I love them, they look gorgeous and really set the car off. BUT.... each one is held on by 5 clips that attach to the outer rim of the wheel, and each one has a black rubber insulator between the clip and the wheel cover. They do their job and prevent any rattles....BUT they leave a dusting of black rubber on my wide whitewalls at each clip. Paper towels and Bleche White and Windex take it off reasonably well, but is there any way to seal the rubbers or coat them with something that will stop the black rubber staining? I wondered about cutting up some of those dense white packing peanuts that they use for protecting parcel contents, and using them instead of the black rubber bumpers. Any ideas?
