Gas Door hindge troubles on a 57

If there is one thing that I can't seem to get right after hours of fiddling - its the proper alighnment and operation of the gas door on the rear fender of my 57.

Any suggestions on the proper technique to accomplish this?

Thanks
Tom

Ts & As,
I'm not sure that anyone is going to be able to give you the answer you seek. Your best bet is to locate another 57 that is correct, and look at its hinge mounting and the two clip springs, and then compare its set up and measurements to yours. Yours may have a bent hinge, over-rounded mounting holes, or may even be the incorrect hinge. Good luck!
