Hood adjustment

The front of the hood on my '55 is sticking up slightly from the front of the car. Anyone have any ideas on how to adjust this so it aligns with the rest of the car?

The front hinge mounting points are where the adjustment is made for the problem you're having. Under the car in the middle of the rock/splash guard is a circlular panel about 8 inches in diameter, held on with 3 screws. Take it off. Its for allowing access to the horns, and to the hinges. Each hinge is held on with 2 bolts to the nose side supports of the car. Reaching up through the opening, loosen off the bolts slightly on the side that's too high, and press down on the hood to get it aligned properly. (Be aware, that like the door mounting points, there is a lot of circular play for the hinges here in all directions.) Then tighten securely the same bolts. Unlock the hood from inside the car and SLOWLY raise it up, WATCHING the front dead centre point of the hood to make sure it clears the front of the car, doesn't catch and scrape off any paint. You may have to repeat the procedure several times to get it just right. You may also have to do the fiddling with the hinge bolts, while the hood is raised (not a one man job). Again it may take several or many adjustments until you get something that you can live with. Remember that these cars were a long way from having perfect gaps when they came from the factory, so be prepared to live with a compromise that you can live with that won't hang up by rubbing off paint. Good Luck!
