Blower motor rebuild

Can anyone tell me if the heater blower motor can be repaired? My 57 just went out last weekend. I have power to the motor so I can only assume that the motor gave out after 44+ years of service.
I was stunned at the price of the replacement. Can this motor serviced?
If so where can I get new brushes?
Thanks all for you help

Tom,

Everything I've ever heard about repairing heater motors can be summarized in one word: tricky. Perhaps a person who is experienced in small motor repair wouldn't be challenged, but I've always been intimidated by them. Afraid of screwing it up and ending up with a pile of junk parts.

Received a new catalog yesterday from Thunderbird Headquarters in Concord, Ca.. They show rebuilt originals for $125.00 exchange, and brand new replacements for $75.00. Don't destroy the original !

If those kind of prices give you heartburn, stay away from the newer cars. I just laid out $198.00 for a FOMOCO remanufactured Mass Air Flow Sensor plus a couple of O2 sensors for a '97 4.6L Ford. Cars aint cheap.

Do I read your post correctly? Rebuilt for $125 exchange. New for $75?

Harley,

Yup, the rebuilts cost $50 more than the new ones. Reason? The originals are somewhat unique in appearance and an experienced Bird watcher can pick it out in a New York minute. There was a pretty high attrition rate on the original motors. That is why there is a $100.00 core charge on them. What price authenticity?
