Engine rebuild time
I've got my 312 on an engine stand, and found an interesting (and greasy) tag on the oil pan (riveted on):
Authorized Ford Reconditioned engine Produced by Cote Motor Co. inc. Boston A Motor no. B 17018 Bore 022 Mains Line Bore 020 Rods 020 Camshaft STD My questions: Is this an obvious rebuild later in the cars life, or could this be original in the car? I presume it was a later in life rebuild. Does anyone recognize "Cote"? I can't find any internet info. Why would someone bore out the rods, not the crank journals (as I think these specs imply)? What's the max cylindor bore? Unfortunately my engine hasn't been cranked in 20 years, and it looks like there may be some boring needed, but it's too early to tell. We'll do some honing and find out. |
