Question This newby needs help

Hi all,

This is my first post on the forum and i'm hoping someone can help. I have just bought a '61 Bullet Bird and I am in the process of a bit of resto work. The car didn't come with the original wiper/washer bag or the pump motor. I can get the parts ok but not sure on where the pump mounts. I have looked at engine bay photos but they don't show the pump unit. I am assuming it mounts at the front right hand side inner fender somewhere.

Also, while looking at engine bay photos, I have noticed 2 black cables (or 1 hose and a wire harness) running across the top of the right side inner fender secured with plastic loop fasteners. I think one may be the hose for the w/screen washers but not sure what the cable is for. As I am in Australia and '61 T-Birds are pretty scarce, I can't just go down the road and check one out for comparison. Can someone please help?

Regards,
Chris (Ozzy) Osborne

The wires you refer to are a 16ga wire from the starter relay to the relay behind the engine mounted on the fire wall, the other is the window washer hose. The washer pump is mounted to the right of the battery on the fender wall look straight down between the corner of the battery and the fender wall you will see the mounting holes.

Washer motor

Thanks for the reply Bob.

I found the mounting holes for the washer motor/pump. For some reason they were covered over with filler and the black power wire is dangling down below the starter relay. The other odd thing is there is no red factory washer bag or mounting bracket. There are two dimples on the right front inner fender where I assume the bracket mounts but they are not drilled out for the mounting screws.

I can't see a relay mounted to the firewall behind the engine. The only relay I can find is at the front left bolted directly below the A/C hoses next to the radiator and is about 4" x 2 1/2". The wires from the starter relay run from right to left in front of the radiator to the relay.

Regards,
Chris.

I have checked and the relay is for the power windows, you must have manual windows. It sounds like the car did not come with window washers, I think it was an option. The relay on the left is the horn relay.

Hi Bob,

The car does has manual windows. The A/C and swing away steering wheel seem to be the only options on the old girl, not even a power drivers seat.

The holes along the top of the inner fender for the hose and wire I referred to earlier were also filled in so what you said about the washers being an option makes sense.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

Chris.
