Speedometer Issues

The speedo in my '62 was jumping and clicking so I sent it over to Instrument Services in Rockton Illinois to be rebuilt. I put it back in and the needle bounced a little at low speed, but was pretty good at 20mph and over. After about 100 or so miles, the odometer stopped working, the needle started jumping again and it started clicking. I took it back out and turned it with my drill and the worm gears seem to be slipping. (hence the clicking sound) Do you think this is just a bad rebuild or could there be some other issue, possibly with the cable? I took the car for a spin around the block and the cable seems to be turning just fine with no slippage or jerking. Anyone have an idea they'd like to share?

I agree. He charged me $300 to do the rebuild and $105 of that total was for 3 different worm gears. I called them and their first response was "bad cable" , "bad drive gears in the tranny", etc. They wanted me to send them the speedo cable too. I just don't see how a bad cable could cause the symptoms I observed. I guess we'll see what they say when they get it back and take a look at it. Thanks for your input.
