Question New T-Bird owner w/ simple question

I just inherited my fathers 1961 T-Bird coupe...there is a circular red indicator light right next to the ignition that comes on when you turn the key and stays on while the car is running. I cant seem to find anything on it in the shop manual, but Im not very auto-savvy. I am wondering if it is a warning light or if it is supposed to be on when the ignition is turned?

You are seeing the park brake warning light. It should go out when the park brake is released. It may be that your brake is not completely released. Let me note also, that the light should flash rather than stay on continuously. The switch is located on the park brake mechanism just under the edge of the dash.

Hey Harley,

You seem to be in the know on my year bird! I am thinking of doing a disc brake conversion. Do you have any suggestions? I posted in the bullet bird forum so I have gone a little more in depth if you need more info. OOps sorry didn;t mean to hijack the thread!

John
